Clinical Protocol: LED Light Therapy
Pre-Treatment Safety, Expectations & Aftercare.
Realistic Expectations
Cumulative Power
LED Therapy is not a magic wand; it is biological stimulation.
The Glow: You will leave the clinic looking instantly brighter and calmer. This is due to increased blood flow and oxygenation.
The Cumulative Effect: For treating conditions like Acne or Psoriasis, one session will not cure it. A course of treatment is required to reset the skin's behaviour.
Immediate Side Effects
There are virtually no side effects to this treatment. It is non-invasive and non-thermal.
Bright Lights: The lights are extremely bright. I provide protective goggles which must be worn at all times. You may see bright colours even with your eyes closed. If you suffer from migraines triggered by light, please inform me.
Warmth: You may feel a slight warmth on the skin, which is due to the increased blood circulation.
Adverse Reactions & Contraindications
While safe, LED is not suitable for everyone.
Photosensitive Medication: This is the most critical contraindication. If you are taking medication that makes you sensitive to light (e.g., certain Antibiotics, Roaccutane, Methotrexate, St John's Wort), you cannot have this treatment. It can cause severe burns or pigmentation. You must disclose all medication to me.
Epilepsy: If you have light-induced epilepsy, you cannot undergo LED therapy.
Thyroid Conditions: If you are on medication for thyroid issues, we may need to cover the neck area during treatment.
The Aftercare Rulebook
There is zero downtime with LED Therapy.
SPF 50 is still mandatory. LED does not protect you from the sun.
You can apply makeup immediately.
You can exercise immediately.
Drink plenty of water to assist the flushing of toxins from the cells.
